President Goodluck Jonathan arrived Otuoke, his hometown, at 10.55am and was accredited two minutes later but his wife Patience Jonathan was nowhere to be found. This Day Newspaper says that There was low turnout of voters as most people in Bayelsa State shunned the elections.
Admitting the apathy, Jonathan said interest in the state house of assembly (there is no governorship election taking place in this state) was poor compared with the presidential one.
He hoped his party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, would perform well in the elections.
However, the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan was conspicuously absent. It was not clear at press time if she was in her native Rivers State where she is intent on making the PDP candidate, Nyesom Wike, the governor of the State.
Election violence was reported in some local government areas of the state.
