PDP wants Oba of Lagos Suspended
Following his attack and threats on the Igbo ethnic group, the Peoples Democratic Party, Lagos chapter have urged the Lagos state governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola to suspend Oba Rilwan Akiolu. His statements not only attracted heavy criticism from the masses, but also led to a public rejection from the same Ambode and APC chairman, Tinubu who he was lending his support to. In a report by Premium Times, a statement issued Tuesday by the PDP’s Publicity Secretary in Lagos, Taofik Gani, the party noted that the suspension of the Oba was necessary to guarantee free, fair and credible elections in the state.
“The 48-hour silence of Governor Fashola since the Oba of Lagos made death threats to Igbos indicates that not only is Fashola in agreement with what the Oba said, but that the Oba spoke on behalf of the state government,” the statement said.
“The governor is thus a conspirator in this threat to life and must also be held accountable for any violence in this elections.”
“We have at this point been vindicated about the desperation of the APC to retain Lagos state at all costs including the All Progressives Congress’ plan not to concede the imminent defeat on April 11.
“The positions of the PDP are coming on the heels of the now viral threat issued by the Oba of Lagos to Igbos that they must vote for the APC Governorship Candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode, or be drowned in Lagos water,” the party said.
The party also noted that it had alerted security agencies to hold the monarch responsible for any attack on non-indigenes or PDP members in Lagos.
